Here we have yet another “metallic” item I picked up while hunting for my challenge last week! (Told you I over-buy!!!) This cute dress, had metallic threads woven into the fabric, but the dress was NOT big enough for me! This week, the challenge for the Refashion Runway is BUTTONS! Visit The Renegade Seamstress on my sidebar for further information and inspiration!
I cut the top from the skirt, which allowed me to open up the series of pleats along the front, giving me extra width. Fortunately for me, there was just enough material to NOW allow me to get the skirt pulled over my hips!
The next step involved evening the top of the skirt. Then, taking some gold metallic elastic, I cut a piece 2 inches shorter than the measurement of my waist. I sewed the ends together to create my new waistband.
Next, I divided the top of my skirt into 4 equal parts, and marked these. I then marked my new waistband at 4 equal increments as well. Placing the seam of my elastic at the center back, I pinned the waistband to the skirt, with right sides together. Stretching the elastic as I sewed, I attached the waistband to the skirt, and my skirt was complete.
Lastly, I decided to add a variety of fun gold metallic buttons to the front of my skirt. I went through my antique button jars and pulled out some buttons to use, and sewed them on the FRONT of the skirt only. (Buttons on the back of a skirt could possibly hurt when sitting!!!)
