Perk up your suitcase with a colorful laundry bag you made yourself in about a HALF hour!!! Ditch those wimpy plastic bags that you find in the hotel closets!
Certainly, you can use fabric you have on hand, or you can buy two coordinating Flat Quarters at JoAnn Fabrics. You can use old hand towels, old sheets, old t-shirts, or just about anything you have on hand …. repurpose! I had these two flat quarters on hand.
Flat Quarters measure 22 inches by 18 inches …. perfect for this project.
Pin your fabrics right sides together, then sew along 3 sides, leaving one of the shorter lengths unstitched.
To secure your corners, stitch again about 2 inches before each corner, then 2 inches beyond the corner. Do this to both corners.
Next, trim your corners like this . . .
To keep your edges from fraying, zig-zag the sides of the bag.
Turn the bag right side out. Now, along the top edge, turn down 1/4 inch to the outside of the bag and iron. Then, turn this edge once again, but this time, turn down about 5/8 inch. This will create the casing for your cording. Stitch close to the bottom edge of the casing. Make SURE to leave an opening of about 1inch!!! This opening is where you will insert your cording!
Now, cut a piece of cording, ribbon, etc. to about 52 inches long. Attach a safety pin to one end, close the pin, and use the pin to help you thread the cording through the casing.
It’s that easy . . . you are DONE!!!!
Place it in your suitcase, and you are ready for your next weekend trip!
MUCH cuter than a hotel plastic bag!!!!! Also a great gift item. 🙂
